Biography
Dr. Akshra Verma is an Associate Professor and Section Chief for Outpatient General Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University. She completed her medical training in India and earned a Master’s in Microbiology and Immunology at Temple University, where she studied opioid addiction. After chief residency at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, she became a Certified Physician Executive and a Diplomate in Obesity Medicine. Dr. Verma integrates metabolic, behavioral, and addiction-informed frameworks in her weight management practice. Her interests include clinical obesity treatment, process improvement, physician wellness, and mentoring residents in quality-driven, patient- centered care.
